Reviews

I first purchased this book in 2002, because the beautiful pictures it contains were large enough for my mother to see with her severe macular degeneragtion. But it became much more than just a "picture book for us," for the next seven years, it became our "bucket llst" of places to go (supplemented, once we were "in the neighborhood" by the sites and experiences included in "1000 Places to See Before You Die"). Although we were already avid travelers, having previously visited 25 of the 57 "landmarks" when bought the book, it gave us specific destinations that drove our family and "just the two of us" vacations to places near - Mesa Verde (in Colorado), and far - The Terra-cotta Army and the Great Wall (in China), which we visited when she was 95. Together we saw 35 of these great landmarks; alone or with my husband so far I've seen seven more -and in two months, we'll be in Hagia Sophia (in Istanbul), that will leave 14 more (although, since I'm not Muslim - and, therefore, cannot visit the Kaaba and Al-Haram Mosque in Mecca, my "list" will be complete with the last 13.)What I love about this beautiful coffee table book is that it's become the repository of great memories of places been, experiences cherished, and adventures yet to come. I've purchased several copies for friends intrigued with our travels over the years (that's why I'm back here now), and heartily recommend it to you!
